I'm trying to use an i900 scanner with Vuescan software via

I'm trying to use an i900 scanner with Vuescan software via USB. The software has been updated and neither my Mac (10.11.6) nor Win10 machine sees the scanner ("no scanner detected"). I've swapped the cables out, but still nothing. The scanner lights for film and paper are yellow, the power light is green and the internal lamp is working.
What can I do to get this working properly - hopefully on the Mac?

the first thing to determine is whether the computer doesnt see the scanner or the vuescan does not see the scanner

on the windows machine search for scanners and cameras in the control panel and see if it is on that list

or on the mac it should be under apple / preferences / scanners

let me know if it is on that list
