HELP I started to log on and hit something. my keyboard is now locked up. Fn key seems to be locked. Number do not work correctly.
Expert:  Cody replied 1 year ago.

Press and hold the fn key for 30 seconds to see if you get a menu to switch to legacy mode.

Expert:  Cody replied 1 year ago.

You can also restart, press F1 continually to get into BIOS --> configuration --> change hotkey mode

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No I want to fix it myself.
Expert:  Cody replied 1 year ago.

ok

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok let me start with holding fn key down . No menu appearing
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
all my f1 key is doing is typing something in my log in.......
Expert:  Cody replied 1 year ago.

you go into the bios to change it?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no f1 key isn' doing anything ,, I'll keep trying bu t jus seems to be typing something in my log in .part of the problem - F1 key is lit up - shouldn't be lit.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no luck. can't get into bios.
Expert:  Cody replied 1 year ago.

how come you can't login? Should not need F keys to login

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
my log uses one of the characters above a number, so I have to hit the shift key to get that character. Something is screwed up with the Fn key and has affected the function of the top row of keys where volume control is etc. Only the F1 key seem to be affected. So I can't log on if I can't use that character key.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I can't believe it's so easy to screw up the FN key. Nuts.
Expert:  Cody replied 1 year ago.

FN key has nothing to do with the 1-0 number keys/ special characters.

Make sure caps lock is turned off and you should be able to hold shift and press 1 to get !... etc.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
When I hold shift key down& press for example 1 to get ! nothing happens . The character keys are not working. Number keys work, and I get notification 'Caps lock is on" . I can shut the caps off but just keeps locking.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I also get 'Caps lock on' if I put cursor at log in and use mouse.
Expert:  Cody replied 1 year ago.

press shift key 5 times in a row, click yes to turn on sticky keys

then press shift 2 times, now try the special character you need

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Nada.... still acts the same. I do not get anything if I press Shift key 5 times
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
still there?
Expert:  Cody replied 1 year ago.

restart and try holding Fn and press F1 repeatedly

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
restart 1st?
Expert:  Cody replied 1 year ago.

yes

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Doesn't help. The F1 key lights , toggle on - off by pressing.
Expert:  Cody replied 1 year ago.

seems you may be stuck needing to get an external keyboard to plug in so you can login or get into bios

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok . No other way to get into bios? I read about that online. Why is it so fricking easy to screw this up by accidently hitting some key but so hard to fix? Seems really stupid. Now I'm dead in the water all day with my laptop
Expert:  Cody replied 1 year ago.

some devices say on startup what to press to get into bios, but Lenovo is pretty universal using the F1 key

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ok. I'll have to take my laptop in to get fixed. Just got it and can be worked on by the company where I bought it.
Will I still be charged for this even though issue not resolved? If so,what is total cost? Thanks -
