I keep getting an error message: Windows detected a hard disk

Customer Question

I keep getting an error message: Windows detected a hard disk problem.
It says to back up my files immediately to prevent information loss, and then contact the computer manufacturer (you?) to determine if I need to repair or replace the disk.
Choices are:
Start the backup process
Ask me again later (if the disk fails before the nest warning I could lose all of the programs and documents on the disk).
Don't ask me about this problem again (no recommended).
The warning has appeared at least 6 times in the last hour....I have done disk clean-up (C:) and defrag....
What else? What next? WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO ME????

Go to start menu --> my computer --> right click the C drive --> properties --> tools --> check It'll ask you to schedule a check disk, then do a restart to start the check disk process.
