What could be causing my computer not to connect tothe internet, when all my other divices do connect?

- Hold down the two following keys at the same time: Windows key and the letter R
- In the box that comes up, type: cmd
- Click the Ok button.
- In the black window, type the following and press Enter: ipconfig
- Press Enter
Question #1: What is shown for the IP Address, Subnet Mask & Default Gateway?
- In the black window, type the following and press Enter: ping 4.2.2.3
Question #2: What does it say, replies or request timed outs?

It does connect to the router. i have tryed wireless and hard wire direct to the router.

That is curious. Please, follow the same instructions on a working computer and give me the IP address & Gateway that shows on it.

Follow the instructions below on a working computer that is on your network:

- Hold down the two following keys at the same time: Windows key and the letter R
- In the box that comes up, type: cmd
- Click the Ok button.
- In the black window, type the following and press Enter: ipconfig
- Press Enter

Leave the network cable plugged into this computer for now.

Please, do the following on the problem computer:

- Hold down the two following keys at the same time: Windows key and the letter R
- In the box that comes up, type: ncpa.cpL
- Click the Ok button.
- Right click the Local Area Network adapter icon that you are using to connect to the Internet.
- Click Properties
- Highlight INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) V4
- Click the Properties button
- Choose the "Use the following IP Address"
- Enter the following information:
IP Address: 192.168.1.55
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
- Choose USE THE FOLLOWING DNS SERVER ADDRESSES
- Enter 4.2.2.3 for the Preferred DNS server.
- Enter 4.2.2.2 for the Secondary DNS server.
- Click OK
- Click OK
- Restart computer

After the computer is restarted, can you get online?

But i just lost power to the house.so my internet is down

I can wifi thru my phone if needed

This will not work if you cannot access the Internet in the house. Is the Internet in the house still down?

I know what you were doing by connecting by local area connection puttin in an address....and i think that would have worked had the electric stayed ON. can we do the same thing wifi?

It would have worked. Yes, we can do the same thing with the wifi. Just change the IP to 192.168.1.56
