Customer Question

I'd like to write September 17-19, 2015 in column A and then other date ranges like that in the next rows. Then, be able to sort data according to dates. How do I enter the dates properly to do that?

Hi there and welcome

Can you confirm please Dana which program and version you are doing this in?

Thank you

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It is on a Macbook, "Excel for Mac 2011, version 14.5.8 (151023)"

To sort, enter the date such as

01/01/2015 in that format

Then once done, click on the Column to select all the dates, then click on the Data tab, under Sort & Filter, click the arrow next to Sort.
Sort either Ascending or Descending and it will then be in that order.

Let me know how you go please

Richard: you didn't answer my question. Can you please re-read my question and answer it.
I already know how to do what you explained and that was not what I was asking.

I did Diane, but you may have mis understood it, the only way to sort is based on a date in the format I wrote it in.

You cannot sort on a actual range in a cell as then its just text, its not a date.
