For Online Computer Support, Ask a Computer Technician
Thank you for choosing JustAnswer! My name is XXXXX XXXXX I will be assisting you today.
What I would like to do is make sure that all settings are correct, not just port 995
I also opend port 465
Okay lets take a look at the in depth settings.
First thing is to close outlook.
Then click on the Start Menu, then click on Control Panel.
it is closed
Once you are in control panel.
At the top right there are views you can change to with a drop down arrow.
Change it to small icons.
Then find Mail and double click it.
Now you should have 3 choices.
The top should be Email Accounts.
Click Email accounts.
This will take you into something similar to what you saw earlier through outlook.
Now make sure you are on the email tab at the top
Then click your email account in the listing below
Just so you know I'm and advanved user/programmer
nogood at spelling
Okay highlight it and click change lol
That will make things much faster
Let me know when you have it open.
Okay now in there you need to make sure you have the following.
With AT&T and can get funky
What do you have for your user name?
been fighting this for 2 months - I know funky
user name David Farrow
That is for the username ?
Under login info?
no it is : [email protected]
Okay that is one of your problems.
Drop everything after the first part.
The user name is XXXXX XXXXX the @ symbol
AT&T is anal about that at times.
ok - done
Now you dont have use SPA checked right?
Go into more settings.
Check it and use the top bubble.
Okay now what servers are you using?
pop.att.yahoo.com and smtp.att.yahoo.com
Alright now go to the Advanced tab
Make sure incoming is port 995 with SSL checked
Outgoing is 465 with SSL checked.
Okay now save the settings on that.
Click Test Account and tell me what happen s.
Did it fail?
failed - still asking for password
Okay go the tab with your password.
Change the password XXXXX (you will need to uncheck remember password XXXXX and then change it)
Then put the check back.
Make sure its the same password XXXXX use when signing into the Yahoo webmail.
when I uncheck remember password XXXXX won't let me pu in a password
Check it back then
Did the pw disappear when you unchecked it?
ok test failed
Okay one last thing to try
Go to the servers area
Change the servers to the following
Make sure it looks like that
You will need to use the FULL email address for your username for this setup
can't read the image and it won't expand
Incoming server = inbound.att.net
Outgoing server = outbound.att.net
Login info username = full email address including everything after the @ symbol
All of the settings we did on the connection tab should remain the same so this is the only changes.
The ports are the same.
Okay you need to contact AT&T over the phone at this point.
There is something messed up on their side between the SMTP/POP servers
And the yahoo backend
Let me get you a link
Strange because if I open the mail in the web browser first then outlook works just fine
That is very weird.
It should work both ways
There is no reason ....
Lets check two other settings.
Open up outlook
Go into email account settings.
From within outlook
You have nothing there connecting to Exchange correct?
where would I find exchange server info
But from within outlook
Click at the top
So Tools, Email Account Settings
can't find anything on exchange
Then you dont.
I want to ask something though.
Do you save a copy of your email on the server?
I've tried both
But when it was working.
Did you have that selected.
currently set to save on server
We are gong to blow away the mail profile.
Sometimes this works.
I want you to close outlook
Go back through control panel to the mail applet
I'v tried that also
No I want to allow outlook to autodiscover
2007 has that feature.
ok - hold
you want me to delet the account?
And the profile as well
I deleted the account - not sure what you mean by profile
Go into the mail applet
And you have your 3 choices.
The bottom is the profile.
will this delet my current mail?
On the computer yes.
But remember you have it set to save a copy on the server
So that wont be a problem.
can I archive it first
Sure if you wish.
I also have a gmail account in outlook - do I need to anything about it?
Because this is going to completely empty the outlook profile.
All accounts will no longer be associated.
So go in and make sure your settings are written down for that account.
And that you know the password.
ok - please hold while I archive it and delete the account
Archive that account too
Give me about 3 minutes and I will be back.
Once you have archived everything and are ready.
Completely delete the outlook profile.
And when I get back we will continue.
Okay I am back
Okay now close the mail applet.
And open Outlook.
Do not select to manually set up
It will prompt you to create a profile.
Name it Outlook
outlook is telling me to setup a profile in the applet
Okay did you delete all profiles?
Okay it shouldnt tell you that.
It should give you a pop up wanting you to create a profile.
you want me to create the profile thru the applett?
Go back in the applet create a profile but do not create a mail account.
outlook wont let me do anything untill i do
it is now asking for name em address and paswd
Input the information
Again do not manually set up
it is looking for settings
That is what we want it to do
Lets just hope it doesnt fail.
Again AT&T can be a pain.
message "An encrypted connection to your mail server is not available. Click next to attempt using unencrypted connection"
Okay we can try it
But I bet it fails.
Go ahead and try it.
I have a feeling it will fail.
If it does we will try manually one last time.
But we will know that we did it on a clean profile.
This is why I loathe AT&T
Okay select manual
what servers this time?
Okay really quick
Your email is @bellsouth.net right?
Try those first.
Use the full email address this time as well.
Make sure that on the More settings.
Under the Outgoing server you have use authentication.
And use same as my incoming.
Test the settings.
No on the advanced tab
You do select the box for encryption for outgoing right? And choose SSL from the drop down?
Okay at this point and I hate to do it.
But you are setup perfectly
This is going to be a call to AT&T
And we did it from a clean profile as well.
Is this still going to cost me?
You don't have to accept.
I didnt fix your problem.
The call to AT&T is free so you know.
I hate not to accept but this problem has cost me so much already
I totally understand.
I gave you the number to their technical department.
They may refer you to their Yahoo team as well.
But I would start with AT&T
Also let me provide you with a link.
thanks very much for your efforts I do appreciate what you have tried
This is the page they have the old domains and their information at
And here is the new one.
Wait there is one more option.
If I accept - will it be a one time charge?
I didnt think about this.
Yes it will but wait one second
Go to that last link.
There is a tool
Start now. You can resolve many Internet or U-verse service issues right now using our online tools. Some solutions will request that you enter your Primary Member ID and password.
Click the start now button.
And it should auto configure.
Try that really quick.
trying - please hold
You will have to come back to JustAnswer to let me know if it succeeds.
Because it will probably want you to close your browser.
Also this is a hail mary pass at this point.
And to answer your question. Yes it would be a one time charge.
You do not have to do a subscription.
After accepting an answer you have the option not to do a subscription on the feedback page.
Just wanted to give you that info.
are you there?
It seems to be bringing you in and out of chat.
I will be here until we are able to speak.
Take your time.
I think we are connected again
There we go
So tell me. Did we have success?
Yes we are.
I am showing you as offline.
But I can see what you are typing.
I showed you come on for a second then it showed you went back offline.
I hope that we were successful.
Wow now I can see you again.
But it shows you coming in and out of chat.
Again I can see you in chat, but it is entering and leaving.
At this point I am not sure what is going on.
the session keeps rolling in and out
I would suggest a reboot of the PC.
But I am hoping that we were successful.
If you can receive the chat. Please attempt a PC reboot.
I will be here waiting in the hope you return.
are we connected?
If you can see my chat
It shows you as offline however.
I have lost all my mail
