A new briefcase icon showed up on our desktop. How do I get

Resolved Question:

A new briefcase icon showed up on our desktop. How do I get rid of it? I'm afraid it will do damage to our computer or give someone our info. I was able to get into it through right click and looked into the advanced button and disabled the archiving. But, I don't know what else to do. Please help!

Hello. Welcome to JustAnswer, a paid global support site.

When did it "appear"? What is the name of the icon?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Try rebooting your machine in Safe Mode first.

Shut down your computer.

After it is shut down, power it on. Start tapping the F8 key repeatedly with a one second interval until you see a menu called Advanced Startup Options.

Select Safe Mode with Networking.

Allow safe mode to boot up.

From there, right click on the briefcase and select Remove/Delete and delete the briefcase.

Then reboot your comptuer to return to regular windows.

Let me know if this works or if you run into any issues. Good luck!
