bmsjeff :

Are these documents that you created in Word 2007 or from a different program or from someone else?

bmsjeff :

What is the extension of the files that you are trying to open .doc, .docx, or something else?

Customer :

some i created some from other sources some pdf some .doc I can create new docs and see them fine it's existing docs that I have troubled seeing I think somehow the files where converted

bmsjeff :

What OS are you using? XP, Vista, or Windows 7

Customer :

windows 7

bmsjeff :

Right click on one of the documents that will not open correctly.

bmsjeff :

Click on the details tab

Customer :

ok

bmsjeff :

Under the section FILE, what is the document type?

Customer :

I I don't see file

bmsjeff :

does the file have a .doc or docx extension?

Customer :

I click on the MS office synbol at the top left. That opens a box w/ a list of recent docs. I click on the doc I want. Some open and are readable, some are not

bmsjeff :

What happens if you open the document select the text and change the font to something like arial or time new roman?

bmsjeff :

One other thing to try:

Customer :

When I click on the file to open it a box opens it says file conversion- name of doc

Customer :

It asks me to select the encoding that makes the file readable

bmsjeff :

pick encoded text, then Other encoding. Let me know what you get

Customer :

I don'e see"encoded text" 3 choices Windows (default) MS-DOS Other encoding when I select other I get a list of options

Customer :

I've tried auto select and a couple of others

bmsjeff :

choose windows, then what happens
