the install manager indicates installed 100% . Then a box will popup and say we don't have most current version of flashplayer and directs us to the flasplayer install page. That we just started from a few minutes before. We also tried to install manually with same result. We adjusted all security settings as suggested , etc. On one of the Adobe sites it discusses 32bits and 64 bits.... the IE 8 shows to have 128 bits.
I see. Now, please go to Tools > Manage Add-ons; do you see any reference to 'Shockwave Flash Object' listed there? If so, what version is it?

Only thing close under tools is Adobe PDF LInk Helper

 

there is an Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5 listed on Control Panel add or remove programs

Okay. First off, please download and run the Flash Player Uninstaller, using the following link:

After it has uninstalled Flash Player, please download and run the standalone installer of the latest version of Flash Player using the given link, as follows:
