My desktop is connected to the internet, but wont bring up

My desktop is connected to...
My desktop is connected to the internet, but won't bring up any websites (it says the webpage is not available- error 101 connection reset unknown error), however the other computers can go to any and all websites through the wireless router which is connected to the desktop? How do I fix this?

If that does not work, please download and install the HijackThis software, and then copy to your Desktop. Then install it. Then right-click on the installed HijackThis program and click on Runas administrator (if not available, just open it normally). Then click on Do a system scan only. Then click on Save log near the bottom. Then copy and paste the text to reply to me.

OK, to clarify. Close the Winsock repair Utility screen and then reboot the computer and try the internet?

Please check the box in front of I know what I'm doing. Then click on mdnsNSP.dll. Then click on the right arrow >>. Then click Finish. Then restart the computer and check the Internet.

If that does not work, please download and install the HijackThis software, and then copy to your Desktop. Then install it. Then right-click on the installed HijackThis program and click on Runas administrator (if not available, just open it normally). Then click on Do a system scan only. Then click on Save log near the bottom. Then copy and paste the text to reply to me.

So from LSPFix, you tried below and it did not work?

If that does not work, please run HijackThis again and check the three items below. Then click on Fix checked near the bottom and restart the computer and check.

I tried running the hijack program again and checking the 3 boxes as you instructed. It didn't fix the problem. I tried restoring, but the only date listed to restore to was today's date. It also did not work. The last time the internet worked was Monday afternoon. How can I restore to that date?

Hmm, if you have tried all my suggestions and it did not work, can you make sure the option File, then Offline (both from Firefox and Internet Explorer) is not check?

It looks like you ran the HijackThis but you did not delete the 3 items:

Let's try another way: turn off your computer. Then turn it on, and right after the black screen with white text or the computer company logo disappears, press & release key F8 repeatedly until a menu appears, then you select Safe Mode (note: if there is no menu, then try the same steps again, but this time, press key F8 a bit earlier). Then login. (Note: if you cannot get to Safe Mode, then just continue the steps below).

Then please follow exactly below:

1.) Run HijackThis again and click on Do a system scan only. Then select the boxes at the three items below:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local
O4 - Startup: MLB.TV NexDef Plug-in.lnk = Michelle\AppData\Local\Autobahn\mlb-nexdef-autobahn.exe

Then click on Fix checked near the bottom, and click Yes to confirm.

2.) Also, run the LSPFix file again, then check the box in front of I know what I'm doing. Then click on mdnsNSP.dll. Then click on the right arrow >>. Then click Finish. Then restart the computer and check the Internet.

Try this, in firefox go to tools, options, advanced, network, settings, and check the no proxy box:

Then
  1. Click on Start button and then click on Run (alternatively just hit Windows + R keys) to open Run command dialog. Type Cmd into the Run box, and hit Enter.
  2. A command prompt DOS window will open. Type ipconfig /flushdns and then press Enter to purge the DNS resolver cache.

Still cannot access the internet. After I entered ipconfig /flushdns it stated "The requested operation requires elevation."

  5. Click once on the System Tools Start Menu group.

  6. Click once on the System Restore icon. After you click on the icon, if a User Account Control window opens you should click on the Continue button.

You will now be at the System Restore screen as shown below in Figure 1. From this screen you can specify the restore point that you would like to restore.

By default, Vista will already have selected the Recommended restore option. This restore point is one was made after a new program, driver, or update was installed. If you would like to use this restore point, you can click on the Next button to start the restore process. On the other hand, if there is a more recent restore point that you would like to restore you should select Choose a different restore point and press the Next button. This will bring you to a screen, as shown in Figure 2, that contains a listing of all the available restore points that you can restore to.

You should select the restore point that you would like to restore and press the Next button to start the restore process. Vista will display a Window showing your selected restore point and asking you to confirm that this is the one you would like to restore.

If you would like to select a different restore point press the Back button. Otherwise you can press the Cancel button to exit System Restore or the Finish button to begin the restore process. If you selected Finish, Vista will display a second prompt asking you to confirm that you would like to continue the restore.

If you are sure you want to do the restore, then press the Yes button. Vista will now log you off of the computer and start the System Restore process as shown in Figure 5 below.

When the restore has been completed, you computer will be restarted and when Vista boots back up it will be restored to its previous state. When you log in to Vista for the first time after the restore, you will see a message showing that the restore was successful.

It only gives the option of "undo system restore" and "Choose a different restore point" - When I select choosa a different restore point the only options it gives me are:

Ok, strap in....

Try this:

1. Click on the Vista start icon in the bottom left corner of your screen.

2. Type MSCONFIG in the search box and then either press enter on your keyboard or double-click on the MSCONFIG program that appears in the search results.

3. To prevent you from accidentally making changes that could destabilize your computer, Vista asks you for permission to continue. You may see a box asking you to key in your computer's administrator user name and password.

Or, if you're already logged into Vista as an administrator, you may see a box asking you if you would like to continue.

Either way, follow the on-screen prompts to give Vista permission to continue.

4. Once you have successfully passed through Microsoft's User Account Control roadblock, Vista will launch Microsoft's System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab.

4. This takes you to a page with a list of "startup items." Startup items are programs that are automatically loaded every time you turn on your computer. Some startup programs are absolutely necessary, others are simply a waste of RAM.

And choose disable all, then click ok and reboot and see if it connects then...

Ok, go back into msconfig, the go to the services tab and hit hide all microsoft services, then hit disable all, and reboot and see if it connects.

If it connects, you can add back the services and startup files one by one using msconfig, then you can narrow down and eliminate the program or service causing the problem....
