I downloaded to desktop and placed in system 32. The Maxtor mass storage device still does not show up when plugged in or when I go to computer under the start menu. On a side note it still makes the sound when the device is plugged up, just not recognizable. The first file of what I downloaded takes me to Do I need to download that fix dll errors? It looks like some junk scanner, and there are several on there, please help!!

Expert:  Anthony Brewster replied 7 years ago.

No thats junk do not do the error. You may have a virus or spyware re-directing your sites if you clicked on that link and it took you somewhere else.

Thats .dll file is what controls the USB ports so until thats fixed, you will not have any USB ports.

After you downloaded the file I told you to and put it in that system32 and then you did RESTART the computer so that changes took affect, that should have done the trick!

When did this problem start just today? Have you tried System Restore?

Customer: replied 7 years ago.

I did put all 3 in system 32, now system 32 had a lot of files in it correct? It didn't do anything different when I restarted the computer.

This computer is my itunes computer ( thats it, i dont use it for anything else )and I have filled it up with music, I really don't want to have to do system restore beacuse some music is on this hard drive and some is on the external hard drive.

I tried hooking the Maxtor device to my other computer and it never shows up??? Do I need to take the hard drive in to a professional to have it looked at??? Is the external hard drive the problem? It has never done this and it has all my pics, movies and music on it from the last five years. What is the best thing to do Anthony

Thanks again

Expert:  Anthony Brewster replied 7 years ago.

Your Welcome! Its not the external hard drive but the computer itself.

Please remember that a System Restore is (NOT) a Factory Restore. It will not re-install windows or make you lose any personal files. It only puts the system back in time like 2 - 4 days ago before this problem started and its work a shot!

BEFORE you do that, download and run MalwareBytes to make sure a Virus/Spyware isnt the problem....

Please download and install the FREE Version of MalwareBytes to make sure a virus or spyware is not causing this. Perform a Full System Scan and remove all infections found. Remove all from the quarantine section as well. Restart your computer and test it out when complete.

For the BEST Security Protection, use Eset Smart Security. Computer infections are created newely everyday, and with Eset by your side, it will not make no mistakes in taking it out! I use it myself, it updates from 1 - 10 times per day. It is always scanning the computer in the background without slowing you down. Its so good, that not even 1 customer have I had to assist due to an infection. You have to see it to believe it!

Eset (vs) Competiton

Eset Advertisment (BEST ONE I HAVE EVER SEEN)

NOTE: If you cant afford this right now, I would suggest to change to the new FREE one by Microsoft.

Customer: replied 7 years ago.

I understand but I tried hooking up the external hard drive on another computer that I'm 99% sure is not infected. You are sure it's my computer, right?

Thanks again

Expert:  Anthony Brewster replied 7 years ago.
Oh im sorry. I thought you meant that the error message never shows up on the other computer. You meant it does not appear either? Even if you check under My Computer?
Expert:  Anthony Brewster replied 7 years ago.

Does the Power come on or does it have a light to indicate its working or not? It may be a power supply issue.

AC Adapter Replacement

Also, check this link out as well. You will see way to many people were having issues with there's as well.

You will need a hardware professional to look at it if its not a power issue.
