Hello,

I will help you on this.

Follow this:

Open Outlook 2010, in File menu, click Info, then click Account setting. Under Email tab, highlight your email, and click Change.

Then in the next window, click More Settings, then under Outgoing Server tab, check Requires SMTP Authentication
Don't choose "using the same setting as my incoming mail server. Just put the the log-in info there including username and password, after that the problem should go away.

Let me know if it works.

Thanks.

The emails that I receive donot go to my Personal Folders Inbox. They in fact go to my [email protected] Inbox folder. [email protected] is my email address.

When I am sending emails it was trying to find a Sent Items folder in [email protected] folder. What I did this morning after contacting you, was create a Sent Items and Deleted Items folder under my Inbox folder. (this was the only place that it would let me create them). Now after making your recommended changes, I tried deleting these 2 folders that I created, but the Outlook software wont allow me to do this.

Now when I test you change I cant see the result because when I send the email it is put in my dodgy Sent Items folder.

Why isn't the email items being stored under my personal folders?

I will be happy to continue assistance on this question.

How exactly is your Outlook set up?
How many accounts do you have configured?
How many Personal folder files do you have?
Are any of your accounts using Exchange? Or are all of them using SMTP accounts?

Let me know...

I am not sure what you want to know with your first question.

I have 2 accounts, Mick McArdle (computer administrator) and Quest (quest account is off).

The Personal Folders that I have are Inbox,Drafts,Sent Items, Deleted Items, Junk E-mail, Outbox, RSS Feeds, Search Folders.

How can I check if my account is using Exchange or SMTP

Tech Support Specialist: Christopher Bessler, Director of Computer Engineering replied 8 years ago
OK.

I want to check functionality before we go down the troubleshooting route.

The way to check this is to first, create a new profile on the computer. Call it whatever you want, 'TESTNOW' or something. Do this from the Control Panels area.

Then, log into that profile.

You will need to setup an Outlook account fresh. In order to properly direct you on this, I will need to know who your email is through. Yahoo, GMAIL, etc..

Let me know...

I am going to set this post as an answer. All further troubleshooting will be posted as info requests. That way if one of our troubleshooting steps resolves your problem you can simply accept THIS post. It is important you do NOT click the accept button until you are satisfied with your answer.

Hi John, Thank you for your expertise and, more important, for your kindness because they make me, almost, look forward to my next computer problem. After the next problem comes, I'll be delighted to correspond again with you. I'm told that I excel at programing. But system administration has never been one of my talents. So it's great to have an expert to rely on when the computer decides to stump me. God bless, Bill
