I have outlook as my default e-mail programe. Has been working perfectly until last week when an error message has prevented my outlook working. The message is as follows:
Errors have been detected in file C:\user\david\AppData\Loca\Microsaft\Outlook\Outlookpst. Quit Outlook and mail enabled applications and then use the inbox repair tool (scanpste.exe. to diagnose the error. Completely confused - what does this mean? Any assitance please?

Micosoft outlook 2007

OK please try these instructions step by step (I realize you may have already done something very similar). If you get stuck, please let me know exactly where:

 

 

  • 1. Double click My Computer or Computer (either on the Start Menu or on the desktop).
  • 2. Go to Local Disk C:.
  • 3. Go into Program Files.
  • 4. Go into Microsoft Office.
  • 5. Go into Office12.
  • 6. Scroll down until you see the icon for ScanPST.exe. The file may also be named ScanPST with no .exe on the end.
  • 7. Double click this icon.
  • 8. Type the following into the Path blank: C:\Users\David\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.PST (this needs to be type exactly as I have it, feel free to copy and paste).
  • 9. Click Start.
  • 10. The scan process should create a backup, scan for errors, and then fix the errors. After doing so your Outlook 2007 should open correctly.

there is no ScanPST.exe icon in Office 12
OK we will need to search for it. Please click the Start Orb and then type scanpst.exe into the search window and hit the Enter key. A list of results should appear, the first being the ScanPST.exe file. Double click it there and then continue my instructions. Thanks!

Do you have a Program Files (x86) folder in your C: Drive? Or just the Program Files folder?

OK please go to the following path and the ScanPST should be there (hopefully!):

 

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12

 

From there continue with my instructions. Thanks and sorry for the confusion.

There is no ScanPST.exe file Icon

Strange it should definitely be there. Can you please tell me if you have service pack 2 loaded for Microsoft Office 2007? Open Microsoft Word and click on the Office Orb in the upper left hand corner. Click the Word Options button and then select the Resources heading. The version and service pack level should be listed on the right near the About button.

 

If you are not running service pack 2 (denoted by the SP2), please download and install it from here:

 

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=B444BF18-79EA-46C6-8A81-9DB49B4AB6E5&displaylang=en

 

After doing that you should be able to find ScanPST in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12 folder. If you still can't find it after this we may need to reinstall Office as the file should definitely be there.

OK you are at the right service pack level then. Let's try the search one more time.

 

  1. Click the Start Orb and then type scanpst.exe into the search bar and hit Enter.
  2. When the window comes up saying that no files were found, click the word Computer under the Search Again In heading. This second search should take a bit longer and will hopefully return the file in its results. Good luck!
