Since I upgraded Thunderbird I...
Since I upgraded Thunderbird I cannot send email. I downgraded a form "Unable to authenticate to SMTP server but the work around just stopped. It said select tools / Account Settings and Outgoing Server - I did that - and only have one server listed and that is one that AT&T told me was correct. I just reconnected my Internet line and the AT&T tech said it was. It is really a drag cut and paste to Yahoo, which I hate. Can you help me?

Open Thunderbird
Go to TOOLS and Click on ACCOUNT SETTINGS
Click on Outgoing Server

Is use secure authentication selected?
What is the port number?

Also, please go into
"Tools -> Account Settings -> [account name] Server Settings -> Advanced -> SMTP" and verify the correct SMTP server is selected there

Port # is 465 and that is marked as the default

SSL is selected under secure authentication.

I have taken a look at att and yahoo and it seems like things are setup correctly. I am going to opt out so that another expert can have a look at this. I apologize for not being able to help much.

Please do see what can be done. I disconnected AT&T and then reconnected to my internet if that helps

Most likely. Your going to need to uninstall thunderbird 3 .. and reinstall thunderbird 2

you can download 2.0 from here..

maybe in the future... thunderird wil work out the 3.0 issues .. but for now.. its a bugged upgrade

If Ii do that I lose all my addresses and files. Is there a way to save messages, address lists, etc. while doing that?

simply uninstalling tbird 3 wont take your email and address lists with it..

Those are in different folders then the program itself..

I was afraid to lose my information so I sent back and got another tech who gave me a program to use to supposedly save my information on that program. Someone there sent me on - sorry, guess you didn't know.

Ok... i see the other post you made. and the software recommended.. Its usually used when your trying to trasfer t bird from one computer.. to a different computer..

But it wont hurt anything..

My question is.. Were you able to complete the procedure i suggested.. To be able to get your thunderbird to work at all?

My thunderbird apparently transfers messages from yahoo as soon as I click on it - but then I cannot send anything from TBird and I can't send those messages back to Yahoo to reply. I have to cut and past.
