I recently installed Office 2010 on my Windows 7 computer. I was using Outlook 2007 before and started using Outlook 2010 in the last few days. When I click on a link in the email I receive a message which states "this operation has been cancelled due to restriction in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator".

What should I do to fix this?

I tried to install the Fixit program and it states that Fixit program does not apply to my operating system or the program. I assume that Fixit does not work with Windows 7 or Outlook 2010.

Please let me know what else I can do.

Thanks! Have you tried using Set Default Programs for Internet Explorer within the Control Panel? If not, please follow the steps below in order to do so.

  • Click the Start Pearl, and select Control Panel
  • Within Control Panel, click Programs
  • Underneath Default Programs, select Set your default programs
  • In the Programs list, highlight Internet Explorer and click Set this program as default
  • Click OK
  •

This should set Internet Explorer to open as the default for opening hyperlinks.

    GOOD LUCK!

Hi John, Thank you for your expertise and, more important, for your kindness because they make me, almost, look forward to my next computer problem. After the next problem comes, I'll be delighted to correspond again with you. I'm told that I excel at programing. But system administration has never been one of my talents. So it's great to have an expert to rely on when the computer decides to stump me. God bless, Bill
