I had a problem with...
I had a problem with a HP Printer in that my PC did not recognise it ( worked OK for 10 months and then stopped scanning.With the assistance of HP Support I uninstalled the HP software and reinstalled. Now my PC is in Active Desktop Recovery. I have tried several times to System restore but it is not allowing this . I am getting a message file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/JB/Application%20Data/Microsoft/Internet%20Explorer/Desktop.htt when I try to activate the Active desktop.

Hello, the first thing I want you to try is to open a new user account with admin rights..

 

 

1) Click Start

2) Click Control Panel

3) Click User Accounts

4) Click Create A New User (with admin rights)

Now after you have your new account created, restart the computer and log into the account and test your computer out to see if its working now.

 

If it is working now, go back to the control panel / user acconts, and delete the old account out (BUT KEEP FILES) and your data will transfer into a single folder and it will be placed on the new desktop.

The new account seems to be OK ie not in safe mode.

How do I delete the 1st account and make sure that I do not lose any files

The same way you created one only your going to click on Remove/Delete Account but KEEP FILES...

 

1) Click Start

2) Click Control Panel

3) Click User Acconts

4) Click the old user profile

5) Click Delete The Account

6) Click Keep Files

7) Click Delete Account

8) Your Data will be transfered to a single folder with the user profile name on the current desktop

 

DONE!

There is no option to 'delete the account' on this account though when I go into the new account there is an option to delete

If you cant delete the other account after you created a new (ADMIN) account, then most likely you were using the main admin account.

 

You will need to transfer your personal files over to the new user account.
