I had been using Thunderbird...
I had been using Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 successfully. (I had not disabled the automatic update.) A few weeks ago when I tried starting Thunderbird I got a message saying that an update was available and would be installed automatically the next time I started T'd. The update failed to load -- whether I was in the user (limited) acct or the admin acct. I kept getting a message that several files could not be loaded. Thunderbird would not start, but kept cycling through message saying that an update was being loaded, then the error message that certain files would not load, and that I should stop other T'd applications from running and that I needed admin privileges. I switched to admin but still could not start T'd. I reloaded 2.0.0.23 and it worked well for a number of days. Then today I got an automatic message that an update was available and would load next time I started T'd. It tried to load it but the same problems as above. I am now unable to reload 2.0.0.23 or 3.0.5.

Yes. But only if you will install 2.x version.

 

If you want to install 3.x, you don't need to uninstall 2.x, because 3.x performs all necessary actions (imports) from the older version.

 

I recommend you to stay on 2.x, because 3.x is very different, it's not easy to accommodate from 2.x to 3.x interface. But this is OK for you, you can install 3.x over existing 2.x (without uninstallation).

 

Before unistallation/installation I recommend you to create a backup copy of your Thunderbird folder. If you are on XP, it should be located here: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Thunderbird

Just make a full directory copy. All your contacts and messages are there.

As I said in my email, just sent, I need to know how to install the emails you told me how to save. Also, I need to know how to uninstall T'd; I don't know which version is now installed and not working.
