Using Vista Ultimate and Firefox...
Using Vista Ultimate and Firefox. (Also have IE installed.) About 5 days ago the right click function on the mouse stopped working, so cannot bring up menus or delete with it at all. This happened around the same time as I used Spellcheck in Windows Mail but don't know if that has anything to do with it. Have tried System Restore, ran Malwarebytes, CCcleaner, and ParetoLogic PC to no avail. Also tried Shellexview but not sure I did it right.

Also, every time I open Windows Mail I'm left with a bunch of edb file icons on the desktop, also lately a few UsedDictionary icons. Please help.

There were 10 updates on June 11th, 9 say Security Update for Microsoft Windows, 1 says Update for Microsoft Windows, all have different numbers.

I get automatic updates, and yes, this could coincide with the right-click failure because I first noticed it 4 to 5 days ago, as far as I can remember.

The Windows Mail edb files have been appearing for at least 4 weeks or more, the UsedDictionary file icons about 4-5 days ago, arouond the same time I noticed right click wasn't working. The Windows Mail Message Store if located in Desktop but I wasn't able to move it. (According to instructions I found online.)

Please rollback all 10 of those updates. Do you have a saved version of your system a week or two before this happened? If so restore your system to that date. If not, rollback all 10 of those updates. One of them has overwritten your configurations files that control the right click. Lastly, write down the names and numbers of all 10 of these updates.

No I don't have an older restore point to do a system restore. My fault. I've uninstalled all 10 updates from June 11th and rebooted but still don't have a right click. Also is it safe to remove the Windows Mail program?

That is not good. It is safe to remove the Win Mail.

Received this message tonight on the task bar: USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. Location is shown in bold-type. Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, replace the device. USB Root Hub (6 ports)

All 10 updates are now reinstalled.

The USB Device Not Recognized message appeared again when I turned the computer on, and the mouse was frozen. When I moved it to another port it started working. Could this problem be due to a faulty mouse? Still no right click.

That might just be a Faulty USB Port. Now the Right Click issue. Please try this:

To rebuild the index:
1. Start >Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Indexing Options >
Advanced > Rebuild
2. Click Advanced, click the Index Settings tab, and then click Rebuild. If
you are prompted for an Admin Password or confirmation, type the
password XXXXX provide confirmation, such as just depressing Enter on the
keyboard.

Then reboot. Let me know what happens next?

It says 're-index selected locations' beside Rebuild........should there be a checkmark in either box: 1. Index encrypted files or 2. Treat similar words with diacritics as different words

I need you to go to Start> Accessories> Command Prompt. Once you see the Prompt type: chkdsk C: /f /r then reboot.Let the Scan run and it will take a few minutes to run. After that runs need you to do this. Get back to the command prompt again. Then type:

SFC /Scannow

Let this complete, then get back to me please.

After I typed the first command prompt it said: "Access Denied as you do not have sufficient privileges. You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode."

OK. Do this:

Instead of just pressing enter, press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER instead. It will then show up as "Administrator: Command Prompt" in the window title.

I'd seen this link before and did what was suggested but it didn't help.

I'm beginning to think the only solution might be to reinstall Vista.

I won't be available for the next couple of hours. I would appreciate any other suggestions you can think of. Thank you for hanging in there.

On a hunch, I bought a new mouse, connected it, and lo and behold, right-click brings up the context menus. So it was a hardware issue after all, despite the computer saying the device was working properly.
