I told you that I have tried to uninstall and reinstall and that it does not work. Microsoft has a number of programs describng this situation but I cannot get them to work. This is what I have done

My computer was working satisfactory until Microsoft automatically downloaded updates for Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.

When I start the computer I receive the following message:

However the computer seems to work properly after I press OK

I open Internet Explorer Version 8 now and it works OK.

I then try to open Outlook Express and I receive the following message:

I press OK and I can receive mail, I cannot print the letters and if there are attachments I cannot open it. I have tried to re-install outlook express but cannot ??

I cannot open the Address Book, it does not exists

I cannot make a new address book, i.e. add a contact

I cannot send Email

When I try any of these things I get the following message:

Last year I also had problem with your automatic updates, at that time I was able to get my computer working by using "System Restore" I have tried that again but it will not work ?????

I then went on the Internet to seek help.

First I tried:

  1. http://www.support.microsoft.com/kb/917288 Title: "Error messages when you open the Windows Address Book or you open Outlook Express after you install cumulative security update 911567 (MS06-016)"

  1. I also tried: http://www.support.microsoft.com/kb/813514 Title: Troubleshooting error messages that ou receive when you try to send and receive e-mail in Outlook and Outlook Express

  1. Then : http://www.microsoft.com.windows/IE/community/columns/filecorruption.mspx Title: The one E-Mail Threat. File Corruption in Outlook Express

  1. And then I tried the most interesting. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/community/columns/oerepair.mspx Title: An Outlook Express basic repair kit

This appear to be just what I need but I cannot get it. Why ????

When using 1) it states under resolution to go to

  1. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa371212.aspx I tried to follow this but cannot copy the .wab file described as C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\<user.wab>

I have tried and tried but to no avail, am I using the right "user"

Hi John, Thank you for your expertise and, more important, for your kindness because they make me, almost, look forward to my next computer problem. After the next problem comes, I'll be delighted to correspond again with you. I'm told that I excel at programing. But system administration has never been one of my talents. So it's great to have an expert to rely on when the computer decides to stump me. God bless, Bill

Bill M.Schenectady, New York
