I have a Seagate BlackArmor 1 tB external Hard Drive.

I have lost all of my Sent E-Mails since May 11. I have a full system back-up dated May 8.

Where can I find my Sent E-Mails?

which e-mail account are you using? i.e. is it Outlook Express,gmail,yahoo, AOL or some other else

This is a known problem in outlook express. When a folder get too large (around 500 MB) and the computer compacts the email box, email get lost. The first thing to do is to check the outbox.dbx.

 

To do that you click on My Computer, then the C Drive, then Documents and Settings, then your windows user name, then Local Settings, then Application Data, then Identites, then the randomly generated folder name, then outlook express. Once you are in that folder right click on your sent items and hit properties. Please reply back with the file size it reports.

I have Windows 7. I open the C Drive and there is no "Documents and Settings"

I assume I am looking for Documents and Settings. I dond't find it in C or D. D is labeled "Recovery"

ok, Please try this->

click on the View menu, Layout menu item, and you should see a dialog much like this one:

The item to pay attention to is the one called Folder List. Make sure that is checked and press OK.

Once you do so Outlook Express will display the folder list in the upper left:

And there you'll note that the Sent Items folder is visible. (Outbox, also visible, is different - that contains items for which you've pressed the Send button, but haven't actually been sent yet, or are in the process of being sent.)

There's one more important setting that's also easily overlooked.

Outlook Express only actually puts things into your Sent Items folder if you tell it to.

Hit the Tools menu, Options item, and then click on the Send tab at the top of the dialog box. You should see something like this:

The arrow points to the setting we care about: make sure that "Save copy of sent messages in the 'Sent Items' folder" is checked.

Cruise,

 

My question essentially was: --- where can I find my (missing) E-Mails on my External hard drive back-up file. It was not answered, so I don't believe I owe the deposit.

 

I eventually contacted Microsoft ( after Office Depot, Comcast, and HP Tech support) and was able to get them back. In a "Full System Backup" on the Seagate external drive, Outlook files are not included------ so "Full" apparently does not mean Full.
