In Microsoft Outlook 2003, go to Tools -> Options -> Mail Setup tab -> E-Mail Accounts -> select your e-mail account -> Next -> Advanced tab -> uncheck Leave a copy of the message on the server

Close Microsoft Outlook, reopen, Send/Receive.

Close Microsoft Outlook again, reopen, Send/Receive again. Are you still getting all 2,500 messages again?

Please press ACCEPT if you are satisfied with the answer so that I can receive credit for the answer.

If you still have a problem and/or have any questions, just reply to this thread.

yes ive tried several times, i shut dow computer, deleted cookies, reset modem, ect
Tech Support Specialist: Mr. Clark, Computer Engineer replied 8 years ago
Okay, the problem lies within Outlook. Deleting cookies, resetting the modem, will not fix this problem.

If you delete the messages in Microsoft Outlook, and then hit Send/Receive, do the messages return?

yes ive done it 3 times

In Outlook, go to Tools -> E-Mail Accounts -> View or change existing

In the window that your e-mail address is listed, please tell me if it is IMAP or POP3

Thank you.

pop 3
Tech Support Specialist: Mr. Clark, Computer Engineer replied 8 years ago
If the Leave a copy of the messages on the server is UNCHECKED in the Tools -> Options -> Mail Setup tab -> E-Mail Accounts -> select your e-mail account -> Next -> Advanced tab and your e-mail is set up for POP3, then the e-mail should be deleted from your Charter webmail box as Outlook downloads then.

If you are deleting them from within Outlook and then the SAME EMAIL appears, then there is a problem from Charter's side.

ive talked with charter and they said it was outlook, i talked to outlook and they said charter, thus using you
Tech Support Specialist: Mr. Clark, Computer Engineer replied 8 years ago
Okay. Let's test to ensure that there are e-mails coming in from Charter.

Open Outlook, in the left hand side of the program, right click on Inbox -> New Folder -> type in Old -> OK

Now go to the right side where all the e-mails are listed go to Edit -> Select All and then go to Edit -> Move To Folder -> select the newly created Old folder -> OK

This process will take a minute. Afterwards, left click on your Inbox (on the left side bar) and then press Send/Receive

Does your Inbox refill with the 2,500 e-mails?

yes they are all coming again
Tech Support Specialist: Mr. Clark, Computer Engineer replied 8 years ago
Okay. If you can verify that when you go to Tools -> Options -> Mail Setup tab -> E-Mail Accounts -> select your e-mail account -> Next -> Advanced tab, that Leave a copy of the message on the server is unchecked, then I strongly believe there is a problem on Charter's side.

Alternatively, can also attempt reinstalling Outlook, but my professional opinion, if the Leave a copy of the message on the server is unchecked, then the problem is on Charter's side.

when selecting the email acct there is no advanced tab after next
Tech Support Specialist: Mr. Clark, Computer Engineer replied 8 years ago
Try this route, Tools -> E-Mail Accounts -> highlight your email account -> Change -> More Settings -> Advanced tab

it is unchecked,
Tech Support Specialist: Mr. Clark, Computer Engineer replied 8 years ago
Okay. Since it is unchecked, Outlook is being told once it downloads the mail from Charter's server to delete them from the server side. If the mails are deleted from Charter's side, then when Outlook is told to look again, it should not find anything.

I believe the problem lies with Charter, because, for whatever reason, the messages aren't deleting on Charter's servers.

okay so i am where i started, i spent 5 hrs on the phone yesterday with no luck from charter
Tech Support Specialist: Mr. Clark, Computer Engineer replied 8 years ago
I wish I could help you more, but we have went through and verified that your Outlook settings are properly configured. The only entity that can help you is Charter, due to the e-mails not deleting on Charter's servers.

Hi John, Thank you for your expertise and, more important, for your kindness because they make me, almost, look forward to my next computer problem. After the next problem comes, I'll be delighted to correspond again with you. I'm told that I excel at programing. But system administration has never been one of my talents. So it's great to have an expert to rely on when the computer decides to stump me. God bless, Bill
