I cannot open iTunes on...
I cannot open iTunes on my computer. This is the error message I get: "The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-50)." Can you please help?!?

It seems like the iTunes install has become corrupted. We'll have to uninstall several iTunes components and then reinstall iTunes.

 

We need to remove iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and Apple Application Support (not all of these may be installed, but we want to remove the ones that are).

 

1. Open the Start Menu, and click on Control Panel

2. Depending on your Control Panel view, click either Uninstall a program or Programs and Features, one of those two options should be available from the first screen of Control Panel

3. Once in Programs and Features, find iTunes in the list of programs, select it, then click Uninstall from the top of the page

4. Let iTunes uninstall, do not restart if prompted

5. Next find Quicktime in the list, select it, and click uninstall

6. Let Quicktime uninstall, do not restart if prompted

7. Next find Apple Software Update in the list, select it, and click uninstall

8. Let it uninstall, do not restart if prompted

9. Now do the same as above for Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and Apple Application Support, making sure they all are uninstalled and do not restart if prompted

10. Check to see if there are any other listings for iTunes, if so uninstall them

11. Now restart the computer and then boot back up to your desktop

12. Download the latest version of iTunes here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and let it install

13. Try to open iTunes again

I will do all this BUT will I lose my songs? I have over 500 albums!

None of your music will be deleted. It will remain in the iTunes Music folder. Just the iTunes program will be removed with the other programs I said to uninstall.
