Gentlemen,
I purchased my second Emachine on Dec 31, 2009 replacing an earlier Emachine. The current unit is: model# XXXXX; Date of Manufacture - Nov. 11, 2009 in China.
S/N PTNB6020029470B98F2700 SNID: XXXXXXXXXXX
O/S- Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium. Version 6.1.7600 build 7600
Unit has had a 250 GB SATA hard drive added for backing up files. No other additions or changes.
PROBLEM #1: This unit will not allow hyperlinks to be opened on most websites including your own and I am forced to use another computer to contact you. I have been working with Microsoft Support fir a solution to the problem to no avail.
PROBLEM #2: In Windows I find certain folders and files locked and I am denied access even when logged on as Administrator. Why??? Microsoft Support says it's not their doing doing.
PROBLEM #3: SD card reader has already ceased to operate.
I would appreciate your assistance.

Problem1: do ANY links work? Which version of IE is this? Problem2: what are the file folder names and file types you're trying to access and what is the specific error message your receive? Problem3: What is the specific error message you receive when you try to use the card reader?

1: Yes, some hyperlinks do work. No recognizable pattern to the rejections. A message "error on page" come up in the lower right hand corner of the screen. The IE version is 8.

2: Can't get into: XXXXX XXXXX settings; Recycle Bin ; MSO cache; Recovery; System Volume Information; Application Data; Desktop; Documents; Start Menu; Templates; Nethood; Local Settings; Send To; and one folder of My Documents. My directory in Windows Explorer shows two by the same name. Message is "Access Denied." Folders display either a lock icon or a small box with a curved blue arrow.

3: No error message. It has just stopped seeing the card. I have another SD card reader in my Brother printer that reads it to the computer just fine. Are you associated with Emachines? I don't understand why I need to pay for assistance on a new machine.

Agreed. If this machine is under warranty please take it back for replacement.

That's not an answer, it's a cop out! How do I get the hyperlinks to work? How do I unlock the files and folders? I don't think your response is very professional nor expert. If that's the best you can do, please let's both of us forget this episode and cancel any plans to charge for me for it.

I honestly believe that if this is a new machine it should work properly and you obviously have both hardware and software configuration problems. While the software problems may be fixable via an expert here at Just Answer I firmly believe if there are hardware issues on a box that's 6 months old then it should be sent in for repair/replacement under warranty. I will opt out at this point and ask another expert to give their opinion and perhaps offer an alternative answer.
