is the screen black the entire time or once you try to log into windows?
what model computer is this?

it is black from the moment i turned it on,and it is a aspire one

no i do not,but it worked fine yesterday except my husband said he was having no volume

Ok please hold down FN and then look at the F keys on the keyboard. One should have the picture of a monitor on it. While holding down FN press that F key.

Ok in that case please try using F5 or F7 while holding down Fn

Ok unfortunaterly that means either there is a problem with the screen itself or the motherboard inside the machine. To find out you need to connect an external monitor to the laptop. If you see an image on the screen then the screen on laptop needs to be replaced. However if you do not it means that the graphics card on the motherboard has failed and needs to be replaced. On these machines the graphics card is integrated into the motherboard so to replace it you need to replace the entire motherboard.
