We have a network application that runs on Windows server…

Customer Question
We have a network application...
We have a network application that runs on Windows server 2012 and runs on SQL server 2008. From the server, the application runs fine. From a Windows 7 workstation, it runs fine if the server's firewall is turned off. With the firewall on, it produces the error that it cannot find the server. The support person says that's because we have to open a port in the firewall and she sent me an article from Microsoft. The article says to open port 1433, which I did. But that didn't work. What now?

Hi,

Thanks for using JustAnswer. I am happy to assist you with this issue. What protocol did you open the port for? Did they specify which you should open it for?

Regards,

Sheri-Expert

Here's an article, the software company's tech gave me:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/database-engine/configure-windows/configure-a-windows-firewall-for-database-engine-access?view=sql-server-2017
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
However, it's for SQL 2017 and this is a legacy setup using SQL 2008.

You going to answer this question? SQL server isn't for everyone so if you want to pass, I'll understand, but let's get someone on it.
