Looking for a wifi router that will have provide a clear signal/range for a 4500 sq feet house.This is a brick building in Chicago with hardwood floors and internal walls and frame. The router is in the front of the building on 1st floor unit. We have a garden unit, 1st floor unit and 2nd floor unit.Currently we have Amped HighPower Wireless-N 600mW Smart Router (R10000). It is about 3-4 years old. It used to work fine. in the past 6 months the signal has been very poor if we are more than 20 feet away from it. I have reset the router, also factory restored, but somehow the signal is still not good.I think I would like to buy a new more powerful router that has good signal range. The wifi speed is 25 mbs.Please help.

I would highly recommend Ubiquiti Access Points for your environment. You can set up one of their APs and then they chain off of each other so there is no need for new switches elsewhere in the building. You can also use your existing router. They work great in high interference situations. The last implementation I did with these APs was in an Ethanol plant and 3 APs covered about 300 yards through a massive amount of metal piping and buildings. They are fairly inexpensive too. You can find a Unifi AC Pro on Amazon for $169 a piece. The software is very easy to set up and it walks you through configuring them all. All you need is a network connection to the first one and then power for the rest. You can find information and the software for these devices here.

Thank you. We currently have RCN for the building. We have a RCN modem and then have connected Apmed wireless router. Can you please explain what I need to do to set this new deivice? Do I need to remove the Amped router and connect Ubiquiti to the modem directly? Am I good with one Ubiquiti device? I don't have much networking experience. I don't need multiple signin, but I could create 3 sign ins for the 3 different units if it helps in performance. Each apartment unit is on a floor, so we have 3 floor total.

You'll just plug in the first Ubiquiti AP into the router. That first AP will configure the others that you buy. There is a Unifi software on the Ubiquiti site that you install while on the same network; it will walk you through the steps. I'd recommend one for each floor and just use one SSID (SignIn). Will each apartment have a different tenant?

Thank you. When I click on Amazon link the price is $129. Is this the right product you referred me to? I will order it and then try to install it. If I have any issues, I might contact you. Yes, each of the floors is an independent unit. So, do I need seperate logins if I install 3 Ubiquiti APs? Do you think that 1 AP will work for the building?
