Customer Question

My internet was too slow so Charter told me to turn off my Mac and connect directly to the modem. That worked to increase the internet speed, but now I don't know how to input the new static ip information into my netgear router.
JA: Happy to help. Want a weekly JustAnswer email to help with other issues? If so, what's your email address? And if you'd still like to talk to the network expert, I'll connect you shortly.
Customer: I'd just like to talk with a network expert, please.
JA: Anything else you want the network expert to know before I connect you?

Hello and thanks for using JustAnswer.com I am Serge and I will try my best to answer your question

Is Charter providing you with static IP?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I have been given numbers for a gateway ip, actual ip address, subnet mask, and dns primary and secondary- I just have no idea how to access the router to input those numbers.
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I just need to know how to access my router. I should be able to handle it from there.

If your computer is connected to Router, check the network settings for Gateway IP

that is the IP of your router

then in Safari enter that IP and you will get to router login

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Do I connect the computer directly to the router or via the modem?
Expert:  UranNet replied 2 months ago.

computer connects directly to router

Just curious: if Charter already basically proved that your router is the issue, why are you still trying to configure it with static IP? or is this a new router?

Expert:  UranNet replied 2 months ago.

let me know if you are able to get to router login page
