Customer Question

I have a new Dell laptop and an older wireless printer. I can't connect to the scanner. What do I need to do?
JA: What's the exact make and model of your printer, and can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: It is an HP Photosmart 5514 and we have had it probably 4-5 years.
JA: What happened right before this popped up? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: We connected the computer to the printer which works fine. The computer says that we can fax or print as a pdf but the scanner option doesn't come up.
JA: Anything else you want the camera expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: I don't think so.

Very confusing here. Printer/scanner is one device? You make it sound like two: "I can't connect to the scanner." So, you're not seeing the scanner functions.

Does a printer/scanner menu usually post by itself when you boot the system? Or are there separate desktop icons for "scan" and "manage print functions"?

Thank you for responding but I finally figured it out by myself.

Uh huh. Glad to hear it.
