Im trying to setup a wireless connection between my Dell laptop…

Using the setup CD I get three options to begin.

1- Change connection method

2- Add Software

3- Start Setup Again

I've used Change Connection to go from usb to wireless.

Unfortunately I do not get a manual option. I've been using computers since the mid 70's and I'd happily select that.

I have also gone to the network set up in my router/modem and tried to add the printer there.

During the previous attempts I got a printout - not sure exactly what I did to get it - it has a WPS Code and the setup program said to enter the PIN but I could not see where to enter it.

I've tried that method also and I never got to the access point detection screen. I get a dialog that says "attempting to communicate" but it never manages.

I'll try again just because...

Restarted and also replugged the usb cable. Same thing - trying to communicate and then an error message.

The router is from Xfinity/Comcast and it is Arris TG862G

I will try the setup again, but....

I just had my credit card charged and my problem is not yet solved. WHY did I get charged???

Back to trying the setup again.

Nope. I tried the WPS button format and got the error message on the printer which translates to the setup didn't happen in the allotted time.

Same story - error message. I never get to the Access Point dialog.

Now.. here's a possibility.

When I press the WPS button on the router/modem nothing happens. Once I while back, I pressed it (not during setup) and discovered that it has a band around it which lights up. It has never done that since. Perhaps I should call Xfinity and ask them.

For starters the IP for the router is not 198.x.x.x it is 10.0.0.1 and I've already looked at what page 13 suggests. I didn't have the manual though so I may not have done what I should.

I'll retry based on the manual and let you know.

I know you didn't give me an IP. That information came from the manual.

Nothing in the manual matches the web page that comes up when I enter 10.0.0.1

However there is a section which says it will add a device based on it's MAC address. I know that from that printout I mentioned previously, so I've tried that.

It was accepted but nothing seems to have happened.

I will look and see if there is another manual that agrees with what I have.

The gate way is 10.0.0.1 just like I said.

How do I close this deal out?

The same difficulty that I've had from the beginning.

I know how to do WPS and, as I said, this has taken too long.
