System not networking out?

Brandon M. :

Hello and thank you for contacting us, a paid expert support site. My name is XXXXX XXXXX I'd be glad to assist you with your issue.

Brandon M. :

Would you mind if we set up remote control with one or both systems so I can take a look?

Customer:

Sure what is required. I will log out of all other programs. To start I lost my internet on the weekend which was IE8, downloaded IE10 and then had network problems. My IT has confirmed the issue is with the server as we can network off of the secondary to a laptop.

Brandon M. :

Ok, I will give you a link and two codes. Use one code on one system and the other on the other system.

Customer:

Go ahead

Brandon M. :

On both systems, please go here: http://166.78.231.170:8040/

Brandon M. :

The two codes are: IWWV and QSUW

Customer:

You are in on both

Brandon M. :

Ok, just a sec while I connect

Brandon M. :

Perfect. The one you are chatting with me on is which?

Customer:

the server IWWV

Brandon M. :

Ok

Brandon M. :

Ok, they both have the same name, that is why

Brandon M. :

They are both calledCustomerPC

Customer:

The second one should be named justCustomer/p>

Brandon M. :

ah, you are right. I'm sorry.

Brandon M. :

Is there a reason why your internal DNS server is last?

Customer:

Do not know?

Brandon M. :

Ok, no worries. Wasn't sure if you would knoqw

Brandon M. :

know*

Brandon M. :

Do you know the login for the router?

Customer:

No sir

Brandon M. :

Can any computer find the server?

Customer:

No the laptop yesterday could not locate

Brandon M. :

And this is a new occurrence? Has anything changed like the router or settings in the router?

Customer:

Not that I know of, I didn't changed anything

Brandon M. :

Ok, I think the problem is with the DNS. I'm just running some tests.

Brandon M. :

Are both systems plugged into the same switch/router?

Customer:

Yes

Brandon M. :

This is a little baffling - the server can connect to the workstation but not the other way around

Brandon M. :

Ah - I have to run out for about an hour. Would it be ok if we picked up then or would you rather if I opted out and another expert can assist in the meantime?

Customer:

Works for me. Can I use the system in the meantime?

Brandon M. :

Of course. I will disconnect from the remote software for now

Brandon M. :

I will be back in an hour.

Brandon M. :

Thanks for your patience

Customer:

What do I do, stay connected?

Brandon M. :

You can close the software, if you wish. I disconnected so it will stay running, if you are ok with that.

Brandon M. :

That way I can just jump back on when I come back

Customer:

good

Brandon M. :

Great. Back in a bit.

Brandon M. :

Sorry, I am back. Let me know when I can reconnect and take a look again

Customer:

Go ahead

Customer:

Anybody home?

Brandon M. :

Sorry - was working on something else. Hold on a sec

Customer:

No problem

Brandon M. :

Connecting now

Customer:

looks like all connected

Brandon M. :

Would you be ok with me trying to uninstall (or you can) avast from the server? Something is blocking the connection and firewall/security software is always the first to rule out.

Customer:

sure

Customer:

restart?

Brandon M. :

Yes, do you mind if I do it so I can reconnect?

Customer:

go ahead

Brandon M. :

Ok, so it turns out it was Avast. Uninstalled Avast and it seems to connect just fine from the workstation.

Customer:

let me try someting

Brandon M. :

Sure

Customer:

looks like its networking, not sure why this program won't open

Brandon M. :

Shouldn't have anything to do with uninstalling Avast.

Customer:

didn't think will have to call tech on that so which antivirus program won't interfere with the networking?

Brandon M. :

Let me see what is the best right now. Just a minute.

Brandon M. :

This will be your best bet: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5201

Customer:

I will give it a try. Thanks If I have issues I will get back.

Brandon M. :

Great. Should I close out the remote sessions?

Customer:

yes please
