Hi, I can help you with this. You mentioned that it keeps resetting your router... Is that correct? Or do you mean that it drops the connection and then you have to reconnect?

also, does it drop the connection after laptop has been sitting idle for a while, or even while you're actively working on the laptop?

When I turned on the computer in the office this morning. The internet connection for everyone in our small office was disconnected including mine. After a few minutes the internet connection became available. Then within minutes after my computer reconnected the office internet connection again was disconnected. Only when I kept my computer powered off was everybody else able to work. This led me to conclude that the router was being affected.

The disconnection occurs even while I'm actively using my laptop. I'm using a wired connection currently. The only diagnostic message from the Lenovo utilities was that a driver for the office Network drive was not installed. I used device manager to disable the network drive. Not sure if that has an affect because I noticed things became flaky at my home office before I got to work.

It has degraded to the point that I cannot connect wirelessly at all.

well, since there is more than one computer experiencing this issue, I would first look at the router, so let me get some info on actiontec first

Not sure if that's a router or a WAP. There's box in the closet.

I think its a router. has RJ45 connectors

ok from the computer that's connected to this router, please try the following

open new Internet Explorer window

Andy Kalita :

into the address field, type 192168.1.1 and hit Enter

Andy Kalita :

you should be prompted for username/password. Enter the username/password XXXXX created during router setup

if it asks you to create username/password, then create whatever username/password XXXXX like, and make sure to write it down

once in, click on Wireless Settings at the top of the page

now, on the left, click on Basic Security Settings

Lenovo attempted to apply profile. It appeared from icon that laptop radio never powered on.

can you try to toggle the wireless switch on the laptop off then back on?

you can leave wire plugged in, and after successfully applying wireless profile, you can disconnect the wire to test the connection

basically what we did on the router

is set the channel that's preferred for data communications

I'm looking for a setting for lenovo profile for channel 11

default Auto setting is hunting for best channel, and it may set you to same channel as your cordless phone, etc

Andy Kalita :

you don't need to set channel on the laptop's wireless adapter

Ok. Could cordless phone at home interfere?

because if you set it to 11 and then take your laptop to location that has wireless channel set on auto, and it happens to be channel other than 11, you won't be able to connect

connect to your LInksys router

open IE and navigate to 192.168.1.1

when prompted, leave username blank and enter "admin" for password

shouldn't. All wireless adapters have channels set to auto by default, so unless someone changed it, they shouldn't have any issues
