I am having toruble accessing the Southwest Airlines web site.

Customer Question
I am having no trouble...
I am having toruble accessing the Southwest Airlines web site. I am having no trouble with other sites and didn't have trouble with Southwest as recently as March. Someone suggested that I might need to update my Linksys firmware. Has anyone heard of this problem?

When I log onto the website it takes forever to load, when it does I can't use many of the links and when I click on the ones that do work, they take forever to load. I can't get to the actual flight reservation information at all.

ok, then do the following in Internet Explorer please

Go to tools, internet options, general, and click Delete, then Delete again.

Then when finished, go to the advance tab and click reset.

Close Internet Explorer, restart the computer and test please.

If you are still having problems, please go to the below link and click fix it

Restart the computer and again test.

Please let me know if following this you continue to have the problem.

I pressed the reset button, waited the 2 minutes, restarted my computer, but still not able to access the website properly. In fact it now takes longer than it did with just the Internet Options reset

Network Technician: Richard, Network Specialist replied 8 years ago

ok, checks out ok here (I assume the slowness starts from as soon as you access the site)?

Can you do the following. Connect your computer to the cable that goes to the wan port of the Linksys device.

Restart the computer and test and tell me if its still slow please

Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
I have no idea how to do that.
Network Technician: Richard, Network Specialist replied 8 years ago

no problem, its easy

the Linksys device (your router) has a cable plugged into the WAN port (its a port by itself with WAN on it)

Just unplug it and plug it into your computer and restart the computer.

You can then access the internet without going through the linksys and we can see if its the linksys or computer(s) causing the problem.

Sorry to be so dumb. I have two wires from the router: a blue one that has Internet over the port and is connected to the cable modem; a grey one that has the number 1 over the top of the port (there are 3 other ports with the numbers 2, 3, 4).
Network Technician: Richard, Network Specialist replied 8 years ago

Dont be sorry please, I'm here to help.

The cable that goes to the cable modem is the one.

Connect the computer directly to the cable modem with this cable please

Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago

I plugged the blue cable from the modem to the computer and even though the modem showed that data was being transferred, I could not access the internet at all.

Network Technician: Richard, Network Specialist replied 8 years ago
Did you restart the computer?

I reconnected and restarted but still couldn't connect to the Internet. I had to switch the wires back to get my Internet connection back.
Network Technician: Richard, Network Specialist replied 8 years ago

ok, thank you for the information.

Can you please download, install and run a fullscan with the below two free programs

they will search for any Malware or Spyware infections on your computer that may be causing this behavior

http://download.cnet.com/Spybot-Search-amp-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html

http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756

If any threats are detected, please click yes to remove them. Once completed, please restart the computer and test.

It says it is going to take 10 HOURS to download the Spybot program!
Network Technician: Richard, Network Specialist replied 8 years ago
its only 15 mb, what type of internet connection do you have?
Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
Cable modem. The Major Geeks downloaded in a couple of seconds. ANd I am currently doing a full scan. I cancelled the other one.
Network Technician: Richard, Network Specialist replied 8 years ago

ok, but this may be linked to the problem

Let me know the results of the scan please

Customer reply replied 8 years ago
I will. Should I try to download the Spybot program or wait to see what the results of the other scan is?
Network Technician: Richard, Network Specialist replied 8 years ago
lets see the results of the first one please.
Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
Just wanted to let you know that the program is still scanning. I never realized just how much stuff I had on this computer. It is still scanning the C:\ files and still has to scan D:\ files.
Network Technician: Richard, Network Specialist replied 8 years ago

thanks for the update.

Its always good to do this at least once a month (though weekly is better)

Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
I scan with both links. There were 50+ things that needed to be removed, though Cyberdefender wouldn't remove them if I didn't buy their service, so I am hoping majorgeeks is enough. After the items were removed I restarted my computer. Then I tried to access the Southwest website...no change. In fact, everything is now loading much more slowly. The laptop had nothing to remove and still can't access the website with all of the things that I've tried.
Network Technician: Richard, Network Specialist replied 8 years ago

ok, can you do the following please.

We are going to factory reset the router to rule this out

On the linksys while its on, hold the reset button in for 20 seconds, then unplug the power, wait 1 min, plug the power in then wait 2 minutes.

Connect the computer or laptop to the linksys via a cable (to the LAN port)

Restart the computer and open your web browser and type in http://192.168.1.1 and press enter.

The username is nothing (blank) and the password XXXXX admin

Once you log in you will need to set your wireless network up again.

Do this via the wireless tab, setting and SSID (network name) WEP security and a passphrase.

Once done, save the changes and let the linksys restart.

Disconnect the cable from the computer, restart the computer and then connect via the wireless.

Then please test and let me know if the problem persists

Hi there, my name is XXXXX XXXXX I would be happy to assist you with this.

Please do the following (note - you will lose your internet connection briefly...just bookmark this page by pressing CTRL and D on your computer simultaneously so that you can come back to it)

On the back of your router, locate the reset button. I know that the previous expert had you press the button, however I want you to press and hold down the button until the lights on the front of the router flash off and back on. You might have to hold down the button for 10-20 seconds for this to occur.

Once the lights have cycled off and back on, release the button.

Wait about 2 minutes and then restart your computer.

Go to www.southwest.com and see what kind of results you have.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
Matthew

I'm just curious here - what happens if you try to access Southwest Airlines directly by IP address? Try going here and tell us what happens -

That's the address that southwest.com resolved to for me. It takes you to the Southwest Airlines website if you put the address in your address bar in your web browser.

I'm testing to see if DNS resolution is working properly for southwest.com
