Hi, who is your internet service provider? What is the brand/model of the router? Do you know what type of security you're using (WEP, WPA, etc.)? Which computers are you trying to add to wireless now, and are being unable to do so (version of Windows)?

windstream, model Linksys WRT54C, security WPA one has windows7 and the other is a MAC OSX

Ok, thanks. The first thing I would try is to take the security down a notch. WPA is used mainly in enterprise environment, and not every wireless adapter likes it. The best balance between security and compatibility is WPA-Personal (also called WPA-Pre-Shared Key or WPA-PSK), so I would suggest switching to this standard. Here are the steps use can use to switch:

  1. On the computer that's currently connected (i'm assuming it's WIndows 7 computer), open Internet Explorer
  2. Into the address field type 192.168.1.1 and hit Enter
  3. When prompted, leave username blank and enter "admin" for password (without quotation marks), then click Ok/Submit/Login
  4. Once in, click on Wireless link, then on Wireless Security under it
  5. Below that, click on pull down next to security type and select WPA-Personal
  6. Below that, enter desired passphrase between 8 and 63 characters long
  7. Click Save Settings and exit browser
  8. Router will restart so give it a minute to come back online, then you should be prompted to enter the passphrase to maintain the wireless connection - enter passphrase you just created
  9. Try connecting another computer that you had trouble connecting before, and enter passphrase you created when prompted

I am having trouble connecting to the address
Network Technician: Andy Kalita, System Administrator replied 8 years ago

Ok, let's try that step in this way:

  • Hit Windows key and R key at same time
  • Type "iexplore 192.168.1.1" and hit Enter (without quotation marks)

You should now get a prompt for username and password, and can continue with the rest of the steps. If that number still doesn't work, try 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.100.
