You mean your wireless?

Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
Yes, wireless
Network Technician: Danh, System Administrator replied 8 years ago

What type of router do you have?

And are you on the wireless now? You should be on a wired connection before making changes to the router configurations.

Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago

Wireless-G 2.4 GHz Broadband router by Linksys.

I am on my pc.

Network Technician: Danh, System Administrator replied 8 years ago
good..and your pc is connected to the router via a network cable?
Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
No, router is connected to modem. Do I put cable into one of the 4 slots and another into the PC?
Network Technician: Danh, System Administrator replied 8 years ago
The router is supposed to be connected to the modem....that's correct. How is your PC currently connected to the router? Do you have it connected through wireless or a network cable?
Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
wireless now
Network Technician: Danh, System Administrator replied 8 years ago
ok...so yes, plug a network cable into one of the 4 slots in the back of the router...let me know when that's done.
Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
Cable connected
Network Technician: Danh, System Administrator replied 8 years ago

ok...so let's check to make sure the cable connection is ok.

goto start => run => type in cmd ... then click ok

in the command prompt, type in ipconfig

report back to me what you have for ip address and default gateway for the LAN adapter ... not the wireless...make sure it says LAN.

Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago

ip: 192.168.1.102

It said default gateway( did not see Lan) 192.168.1.1

Network Technician: Danh, System Administrator replied 8 years ago

did it say anything about "adapter"

Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago

All the information was listed under Ethernet wireless connection.

Network Technician: Danh, System Administrator replied 8 years ago

ok...so that's the wireless adapter.

Can you see if you can scroll up and see if you can see the IP addres for the ethernet adapter? Once we make enable the wireless security...your wireless connection will drop...that's why we need to be sure your "wired" connection is connected properly.

Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
Is there someplace else to look as scroll does not give me any additional infor.
Network Technician: Danh, System Administrator replied 8 years ago

let's goto start => control panel => network connections

do you see one that says local area connection?

Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
yes
Network Technician: Danh, System Administrator replied 8 years ago
ok...right click on it and select status ... then click on the support tab ... it should give you an ip address there.
Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago

Does not show ip address, shows 0.0

Time to stop.

Network Technician: Danh, System Administrator replied 8 years ago

ok...that means you aren't connected through the cable yet. Try clicking on repair to see if it gives you an ip address.

So you are done?

Ask Your Own Networking Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
Yes, lets stop
Network Technician: Danh, System Administrator replied 8 years ago
ok...have a nice day
