I have an IP phone and I need to set my phone up as priority over the internet because when I am talking on my IP phone, it cuts out every 10 seconds or so.
can you help me.....

Are you using an IP phone adapter with a standard phone plugged into it? If so then the recommended configuration is to plug your modem into the phone adapter and then plug your router into your phone adapter. This will prioritize voice calling when you router is consuming high amounts of bandwidth.

 

If you are using a wireless IP phone that works over WiFi or ethernet directly then your router will need traffic prioritization built into it. In this case please provide the model of the router and we can verify compatibility.

OK. First you need to log into your router. Use an internet connected computer to connect to the following address:

 

http://192.168.1.1

 

Leave the username field blank and for the password XXXXX "admin" without quotes.

 

(Note that you will need to enter the correct user name and password XXXXX these were changed when the router was first set up)

 

When you are logged in click on the 5th top heading labeled "Applications and Gaming" followed by "QoS" directly below it.

 

Select (o) Enable then move to "Ethernet Port Priority". Select the port you have the phone plugged into change the priority setting to "high". Keep the "flow control" setting as is. Now click on the save settings button at the bottom of the page and log out. (or close the page). You should now be able to hear and place reliable phone calls without having the signal break up. Refer to page 17 of the user manual for additional information on this feature:
