Please do not accept my answer unless you are 100% satisfied with the results. If you choose to accept my answer, you may continue posting on this thread as well to ask questions later. I would prefer you try out my solution first though before accepting.

Both of these programs take a long time to run but you can find comfort in the fact that if they don't find anything, you're very likely clean of infection. Furthermore, if they do find something, they are both more than capable of cleaning it.

Run a scan. Here are two free programs that clean just about everything.

(you can pay for them, but there is no need).

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

http://www.superantispyware.com/

Run malware bytes first. Then run superantispyware. When you're finished with these programs feel free to uninstall them. They are very thorough combined together.

I am concerned before i run the programmes as someone has copies of an email that i replied to and was not sent copies directly, i need hard evidence that they will have attached something to my laptop, would running these programmes give me the information that i need (for theLawyer) or would it just wipe clean any recollection of the virus.
Network Technician: Justin, Certified Networking Engineer replied 8 years ago
They will not automatically clean them. What they will do is find the files that they believe are infected, and list them at the end. You would then have the option of cleaning them. It should tell you the file infected, and the type of infection (the variant of the virus).

Like I said, don't accept my answer yet, you may need a bit more help after. Do the scans first, and don't clean them at the end. For malware bytes. It'll list them in a check box at the end. On the bottom left it will say "remove detected threats". You don't need to click it.

For superantispyware, when its finished. It'll list all infections found, clicking the next key will immediately clean them tho, so don't click next.

I believe both programs also save log files of the infections though.

ok i'll give it a go only i am not 100per cent confident in what i am doing i'm not too good on the computer all the information just baffles me, i know i sound a complete idiot but i am willing to try. i just wish there was an easy guide how to do it the site looks terrifying.
Network Technician: Justin, Certified Networking Engineer replied 8 years ago
Haha, I hear you. No problem though. Any questions (even if you feel they may be silly) just post them to here. I'll work on this with you till you give up (I rarely give up).

By the way, do you have a reason to suspect you have a trojan?

no real reason i'm just trying to find out how someone received a full copy of an incoming email to me and my reply, without forwarding them a copy. I know even i'm not that daft. They didn't answer the question when asked how they got the copy they just treated me like an idiot and said i had sent it to them, when i know i did not. how i came to the trojan bit was I was watching a t.v.programme earlier and the same thing happened to them and they said it was a trojan horse, before this i didn't know about it. as i say, i don't know too muchh about the it side of it i just potter on it. i would be so grateful if you could helpme i may need to come back to this tomorrow as it is nrly midnight and i need to be up for work but believe me, i don't give up until the biltter end. if thats ok.
Network Technician: Justin, Certified Networking Engineer replied 8 years ago
Hmmm. Your email account could possibly be compromised as well. Let's do those scans first. Then I'll guide you on how to change your password, configure your mail, etc., so at the very least this doesn't happen again.

No problem on your availability. If I don't answer right away don't fret, I check pretty often.
