Ok- I am trying to use a seagate backup plus for my mac-I

ok- I am trying to use a seagate backup plus for my mac-I started it- I went to time machine and clicked onto ON- it backed up something and now it says next back up at 232pm - am I doing this correctly? also under options it asks how long 2 weeks up to one year- am I supposed to click onto one of those?
