Hello. My name is Michael. I can help you with your question.

Are you able to get into the BIOS if you press F1 on startup?

The reason I'm asking is to determine if it is the power on password ***** the supervisor password ***** is causing the problem.

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
It's the lack of a supervisor password ***** causing the problem.

Unfortunately, the supervisor password ***** be reset, even by Lenovo. It requires replacement of the motherboard. Personally, I've tried just about every conceivable method to try to clear it, never with success. Here's what Lenovo says exactly,

"A forgotten Supervisor password ***** prevent access to the ThinkPad BIOS setup utility. If the Supervisor password ***** been forgotten and cannot be made available to the service technician, there is no service procedure to reset the password. The system board must be replaced for a scheduled fee. Proof of purchase is required, and this repair is not covered under the warranty. "
