Customer Question

need help replacing Acer 550 external PC speakers. They are at least 9 years old! Shopping on a strict budget
JA: What's the make/model of your device? How old is it?
Customer: Dell Dimension E 521 -- about 9 years old. Speakers came with it
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: Landlady had my room painted 1 month ago. I got back 2 weeks ago and no audio. Assume speakers fell from computer table and something broke. Speakers power up, but when I touch the jack to the back of my Dell there is no sound -- no static. So assuming its the speaker itself
JA: Anything else you want the electronics expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: I hope he can guide me to a new set of speakers with the same sized plugs as the Acer 550

Hello, and thank you for using this service.

Sorry you are having trouble. I will help you now.

You shouldn't immediately assume the speakers are bad. You are likely using regular analog speakers. These have a headphone type jack. If you have this type of plug on your speakers, then let me know if you have a working pair of headphones. Any pair that works will do, and these of course are very cheap, so if you don't have a pair you can buy a pair to test with.

OK. I can just recommend new speakers if that is what you want. However, I can also help you test if you have a pair of headphones to make sure your sound device is OK before you buy new speakers.
