T60: the computer fires up correctly. But after a few minutes, the screen lights turn off almost completely (it's possible to see something very vaguely and hardly.). Has the screen gone bad or is that a software issue?

From the details you provided through the other question you posted it looks like the screen is faulty especially the back light tube or the power inverter board.

The power inverter board to the display doesn't cost much compared to back light tube.
