Customer Question
Hello I have...

Hello I have a 1970 firebird formula 400 the steering pump on my engine on the back connecting plate has 2 bolt holes one for top securing and one on bottom' my problem is I have ordered 3 1967-1970 plus 2 for 1970 year only from tech advisers from firebird central and ames all 3 only have one bolt hole that is on the top (one bolt will not secure the pump) can you help?? thanx brian

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the fluids recently?

Yes

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Firebird Formula yourself? What have you tried so far?

No I have had 2 professional mecanix separet dealers remove the pump and have told me these are not the correct pumps as I need a bottom threaded hole for securing pump none of my three pumps have that bottom threaded hole

Are you sure your car has a 70 pump set up on it? Does it still have the original engine in it?

I can check my 69 TA's pump set up but wont be able to do that until Wednesday evening.

I am sorry I forgot about you. I will be in my garage tonight and will look. I had some personal issues come up but will write myself a mental not so I don not forget this time.

I know there are a lot of one year only parts on 70 Firebirds but you are correct. The 69 pump has only one hole and the 70 pump does have 2. I verified this by looking at my 69 pump and my NOS 70 accessory pump I have.

I see Ames does not even list a pump for 70.

What is the issue with your original pump? Maybe you can get a rebuild kit for it and fix it yourself.
