Wont start after new distributor, Turns over fine. Pretty

Customer Question

wont start after new distributor
JA: Have you checked the battery, particularly the terminal connections? Are they corroded?
Customer: Turns over fine. Pretty sure I have te distributor in 180 off. Gets spark and gas. Just backfires every now and then.
JA: What is the model/year of your Ford?
Customer: 73 mustang
JA: Are you fixing your Mustang yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes. The distributor broke the other night. So I replaced that. The coil points and condenser are also pretty new. My timing light lights up on the first cylinder. When I bumped the motor around to the tdc mark, the rotor was pointing a number 6.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: no
