It's a 1977 CJ 7 and makes loud whining noise when I give it

Customer Question

It's a 1977 CJ 7 and makes loud whining noise when I give it gas. Stops when I release gas pedal. ???
JA: What confuses you?
Customer: Is there a way to reduce the noise?
JA: Has the vehicle turned into a gas hog? And how does it start -- same as usual?
Customer: Not a gas hog. Starts as usual
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Maybe fix it myself. Depends on what the problem is.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: The vehicle runs pretty well otherwise. Very strong acceleration, good comprtession, Can sometimes stall, but then restarts easily.

I had a similar noise on my car just last year come to find out the plastic transmission torque convertor inspection cover didn't fit well enough and the flexplate/flywheel was rubbing against it making a whining noise. Remove that inspection cover and listen if the noise goes away and if it does, inspect the inside of that cover for scrape marks from the flexplate/flywheel.
