I have a GM performance crate motor (350/330) that I put in

Customer Question

I have a GM performance crate motor (350/330) that I put in my 51 Chevy p/up. It cranks strong is getting fuel but starts only when it feels like it. The timing is correct, it's getting fuel. This is a new motor, only 1700 miles. Any ideas?

I have been a professional master mechanic for over 35 years and am happy to help you with this.

What kind of ignition system does it have?

HEI or points?

HEI. I also have an electric (Holley) fuel pump.

Next time it wont start, have a can of starting fluid and give it a shot down the carb and see if it hits on that. This way we can tell if its losing fuel or spark. let me know
