Key is stuck in the ignition of a 2006 Pacifica, I can turn

Customer Question

Key is stuck in the ignition of a 2006 Pacifica
JA: Can you turn the steering wheel at all? And what about the key? Is it worn or damaged?
Customer: I can turn the steering wheel and the key isn't damaged.
JA: Are you fixing your Pacifica yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: If I remove the ignition all together, the key comes right out
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: That's it

Hello my name is ***** ***** I will be assisting you with all of your vehicle questions today. Give me one moment while I review your question and come back with a answer. Please be aware I do not know your skill level or abilities so I will be asking a lot of questions and in a lot of cases we will respond to each other quite a lot before we find a solution. As far as phone calls are concerned that is the system prompting you, not me, and they do cost more money, I prefer text but in some cases a phone call is required

I'm a novice. I have removed the console and tried checking to see of the shifter was not on correct spot but it seems ok
Expert:  TECHPRO49 replied 2 months ago.

so you have the column apart can you check the actuator at the ignition to see if its working properly

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
That's where my limitations come in. I don't know the terminology. I removed the ignition with the key still in it and I can see inside the "cylinder" that the ignition came out of. Once the ignition is out, I can turn the key and see it click into the lock position and then the key slides right out but when I put the ignition back in, the key won't click into the lock position.
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
There is a plastic pin in the back of the cylinder that the ignition goes into and I can push it in and out
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Also, am I being charged for each question or message I send?

Hi Im David, put the key cylinder back in. turn the key on. step on the brake and listen for a click.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
I do hear a click or popping noise. Seems like it's coming from under the hood
Expert:  david craig replied 2 months ago.

shouldnt be coming from under the hood. should be coming from near the shifter lever

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
this time I heard it as soon as I tapped the brakes
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
There is a little pink plastic tab that seems like it moves when I tap the brakes
Expert:  david craig replied 2 months ago.

thats the shift interlock override

Expert:  david craig replied 2 months ago.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Is the BTSI solenoid the "Cylinder" that the ignition plugs into?
Expert:  david craig replied 2 months ago.

no its the solenoid under the center console that releases the shift lever

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
The attachments you sent seem to be for a shifter stuck in park.
Expert:  david craig replied 2 months ago.

its a checkout of the shift interlock. not just for a lever stuck in park

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
On one of the attachments, #5 can't be performed
Expert:  david craig replied 2 months ago.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.

Expert:  david craig replied 2 months ago.

Customer: replied 2 months ago.

Expert:  david craig replied 2 months ago.
