it is not shifting out of what i believe is 3rd gear
JA: How old is the transmission? Have you checked the brake switch?
Customer: i can't get above 40-50 mph without it running at 3-4k rpms
JA: What is the model of your '50 Chrysler?
Customer: i am looking into checking that switch now. I've been researching like crazy
JA: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: 2008 sebring
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

If the trans is stuck in a single gear it's in limp in. If the trans controller sees an issue that can prevent proper operation it will set fault codes and lock you in a single gear. There are many possible causes for limp in including solenoids, pressure switches, speed sensors, wiring, and internal trans issues.
