Customer Question

I cannot get the ignition to turn so I may turn on my car. I believe it has something to do with the remotes. They are both factory keys and they no longer unlock or lock all of the doors. I am not sure what to do.
JA: Is this your first time dealing with this issue?
Customer: No... It was intermittent and then now terminal.
JA: What is the model/year of your Chrysler?
Customer: 1997 Cirrus 1998
JA: Are you fixing your Cirrus yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I am trying myself.... My husband says if I can turn it on he can replace the ignition cylinder... I think it has something to do with the alarm not unlocking the ignition.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: not that I can think of

Hi Im David. it has nothing to do with your alarm. the key lock cylinder needs replaced. try wiggling the steering wheel back and forth and push up and down on the shift lever while jiggling the key

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
If I cannot get the cylinder to move will I still be able to replace the part?
Expert:  david craig replied 11 months ago.

No, as it has to be turned to the run position to be able to release the pinlock.

Expert:  david craig replied 11 months ago.

were you able to get it out?

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

To get the tumblers unstuck temporarily you can spray some penetrating oil directly into the lock cylinder, insert the key and run it in and out quickly several times. Then insert it fully and give it a few good taps on the end and the key will most likely turn.
