I replaced the instrumentation lights with LED. They worked for a few minutes and then turned off. Why? The LEDs are still functioning
JA: Just to clarify, what are the exact lights you're talking about?
Customer: instrumentation cluster lights
JA: What year is your LTD?
Customer: LTD?
JA: Are you fixing your LTD yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I replaced the instrumentation cluster lights with LED.

It's possible that there is an internal failure in the instrument cluster but it could also be wiring, connections, or a body controller issue. The body controller controls illumination, there may be damage to the driver or it may have simply shut the circuit off because it saw current draw go too high.

Do the radio and a/c control head illumination still work?
