The check engine light rarely illuminates due to oil pressure, so that shouldn't be a concern.

Typically the check engine light comes on due to a fault in the emissions control or engine control system. If the check engine light is on and blinking then that means there is an active misfire detected in the engine.

It should be safe to drive the vehicle to have it repaired as long as the check engine light is just on and not blinking. If the light is blinking it's still not terrible to drive it that way, it just might not run very well and could damage the catalytic converter if driven more than 20 miles or so with a constant active misfire (which would be indicated by the blinking light).
