Customer Question

When I start my 2011 Chrysler 200 it idles fine until I hit the throttle then the idle gets slower and it dies. When I try to start it again it won't do anything and the check engine light and another electrical light comes on.

Hello. My name is ***** ***** I will be helping you today.

It sounds like a bad fuel pump. Are you able to check the fuel pressure?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No I'm not a very good mechanic. It did it while my daughter was inside the car when idling helping me bleed my brakes. She said the AC went off and it started idling faster then slow and quit. All it did after that was not even attempt to start. Lights would flash on the inside. Put a battery charger on it last night. It started right up and idled fine until I hit the gas. The idle went low then it quit. Now it won't start at all again and doing that weird light thing

Do you have a multimeter? If so check the battery voltage.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yeah I think so. Can I check it through the jumpstart cables or will I have to do it directly on battery located in fender well. But it fired right up yesterday I just don't think it's the battery and it stopped while it was running both times.

Could it be an idler sensor or something like that?
Expert:  Wayne Crawford replied 1 year ago.

There is no such thing as an idler sensor.

What else do you think it could be?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Don't know thought there were different sensors on this car that could possibly mess up fuel flow air flow something along those lines.

Stupid smart text sorry

Theres a mass air flow sensor. Ultimately the PCM controls the idle.. it uses sensors to take readings that it uses to calculate how it should adjust the idle.

what should I do? Start with the battery and go from there
Expert:  Wayne Crawford replied 1 year ago.

I would start with checking the voltage of the battery.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok then what steps should I take after that if it's not the battery
Expert:  Wayne Crawford replied 1 year ago.

Whats the voltage?
